about us

The North West Regional Hub formally ceases with effect from Thursday, 31st March, 2011. The Hub website will continue to be maintained until 31st August, 2011.

The National Strategies website will be closing down in June 2011. The contents of the site will be moved to the National Archives where they will still be accessible.

LA Hubs of effective practice in SEN/LDD were introduced as part of the 07/08 National Strategies SEN programme to disseminate best practice between LAs. LA Hubs also support the interface between LAs and the DCSF in helping to meet the needs of children and young people with SEN. Feedback received from the LAs that participated was very positive with indications that the programme had already helped local development and practice.

Liverpool and Tameside Local Authorities are the joint Hub lead authorities for the North West. For any queries on any aspects of the Hub's activities, please contact Karen Gleave,
Co-ordinator of the North West Regional Hub of Effective Practice in SEN/LDD on 0151 225 6635 or by email on karen.gleave@liverpool.gov.uk.

The 08/10 programme has been informed by that work and has been significantly developed. Key changes include:

  • More clearly specified national and regional priorities that will be the focus of hubs work
  • A significant increase in the annual funding to allow coordinating LAs to deploy staff to manage the project
  • The number of hubs is reduced from 18 to 10 - one to correspond with each of the Government Offices and two for London to facilitate  a coordinated and improved regional focus
  • The two way relationship of hub LAs with the DCSF and the NS is further developed
